Mound Damaged In Flood Spurs Research

WINTERVILLE (Ben Caxton) — Winterville’s biggest mound was damaged by the flood in the Spring of 2016. That damage has spurred archaeological research, and an opportunity for the public to catch a glimpse of the results. On Saturday, February 25 at 1:00PM Winterville Mounds will present “Salvage excavations of Winterville’s Mound A”. At the event Corin Pursell of Tennessee Valley Archaeological Research (TVAR) will report on recent archaeological excavations conducted on the damaged mound. Admission is free and Winterville Mounds is located on 2415 Highway 1, a few minutes north of Greenville.
