Vicksburg Placing Tax Liens on People Who Owe Them Money

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — 24 people who collectively owe the City of Vicksburg nearly $43,000 will not be seeing all of their tax return money this year. In an effort to start collecting the more than $4 million in back fines owed the city the Vicksburg Municipal Court has informed the gang of 24 that their past due fines plus a 25 percent fee will be deducted from any state income tax refund they may receive. The city has contracted with Mississippi Intercept Co. LLC to work with the Mississippi Department of Revenue to put a lien on the refunds of those owing money.
