Two Of Three Charged With Murder In Custody

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — One of two wanted suspects charged with murder in Tuesday’s shooting death of Alexis Burkhart has turned himself in. According to a tweet Delta Radio News received from the Jackson Police Department, 21-year-old Keeunna Welch turned himself in to police headquarters Wednesday afternoon. He is charged with Murder and Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling. His brother, 32-year-old Calvin Welch, Jr. is still at large and wanted by police. Police earlier captured a third suspect in the homicide, 26-year-old Evelyn Powell. The shooting death of a woman was the first in Jackson in over a year and it appears the victim was not the target of the shooting. Powell left a house where Burkhart was visiting after getting into an argument with an unidentified man. She returned some time later with the Welch brothers who police say shot into the building from their car. Burkhart was hit in the chest and died from her wounds at the scene.
