Two More Inmates Found Dead over the Weekend

PARCHMAN, MS (Ben Caxton) — Two inmates in Mississippi died over the weekend. Coroner James Anderson was called to the Marshall County Correctional Facility around 8:45 PM Saturday in the first incident. The body has been sent to the state’s medical examiner for an autopsy. Then, on Sunday, 26-year-old Joshua Norman was found hanging in his cell at Parchman Penitentiary by guards. A press release by the Mississippi Department of Corrections said Sunflower County Coroner Heather Burton does not believe foul play is involved, however, the investigation is ongoing, and an official cause and manner of death are pending autopsy results. Norman was serving five years for armed robbery in Oktibbeha County. At least 12 inmates have died in the state’s prisons since late December, most of them in outbursts of violence, and most of them at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman.
