Sunday Storms Cause Two Mississippi Deaths

DURANT, MS (Ben Caxton) — Sunday’s thunderstorms have led to at least two deaths in Mississippi. Carlton Hurt was killed in Durant when a tree fell on his home. Hurt leaves behind four children and a fiance. And, a Rankin County 7-year-old was electrocuted while playing outside after the storms when he attempted to unplug an electrical golf cart charger. A cable to the golf cart from a 110-volt outlet was lying in standing water but officials were unclear as to whether the shock came from the outlet or a lightning strike that may have charged the ground. The child was alive when first responders arrived but later died at the hospital.
