State May Spend Less Money Next Year

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi lawmakers are recommending that the state spend slightly less money on state government services during the coming fiscal year. The Joint Legislative Budget Committee met Wednesday to adopt a broad outline for a nearly $6.3 billion budget for the year that begins July 1st. That’s nearly $94 million less than the state will spend this year, about a 1.5% decrease. Legislators must set a final budget by early May.
