Some Mississippi lawmakers are pushing for a break on property taxes for residents who are 65 and older

The bill would freeze the assessed value of homes owned by senior citizens unless the homes go up in value due to renovations. Supporters say the bill would keep seniors on fixed incomes from being taxed out of their homes, while opponents say it would deprive counties of badly-needed revenue and shift the burden on to other people.
