Small Earthquake Rattles New Madrid Fault Area

GASSVILLE, AR (Ben Caxton) — A small earthquake struck in the New Madrid fault zone area of northeast Arkansas Thursday morning. The 3.7-magnitude temblor was centered near Gassville along the Missouri-Arkansas border about 100 miles north of Little Rock. People reported feeling the earthquake in parts of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kansas. The Baxter County Sheriff’s Office says they received dozens of phone calls after the earthquake hit, but no one was injured and no damage was reported.
