Secretary Of State Playing Santa to Local Governments

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — KJust in time for Christmas the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office is playing Santa Claus by releasing more than a half million dollars to counties, cities, and schools in 49 Mississippi counties representing proceeds from recent tax-forfeited property sales. Washington County received almost $11,000 from the sale of 23 parcels, with Bolivar County getting $5400, Leflore County $7,000, Warren County $11,400, and Coahoma County $8,400. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says the distribution placed almost 1100 parcels back on the tax rolls. In recent years successful auctions across the state have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Mississippi schools, municipalities, and counties.
