School Sports Can Resume June 1

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — It’s been two months since Mississippi high school sports were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Mississippi High School Activities Association has taken steps to allow summer workouts to begin. Effective June 1st schools can begin summer practices, workouts, weightlifting, conditioning, and rehearsals for student-athletes and fine arts participants although competition is canceled until school resumes in the fall. MHSAA’s guidelines are designed to minimize contact and encourage sanitation efforts. CDC and state health guidelines dictate a 14-day quarantine and at least 72 hours symptom-free before returning to activity in the case of a patient with a positive test.
