Ole Miss on Verge Of Signing Lane Kiffin As Coach

OXFORD, MS (Ben Caxton) — USA Today is reporting that Ole Miss is on the verge of signing an agreement with Lane Kiffin to become the university’s next head football coach. Kiffin has been rumored a candidate for both the Ole Miss and Arkansas head coaching vacancies but according sources Kiffin prefers Ole Mis and negotiations may be completed as soon as the conclusion of today’s Conference USA title game. The 44-year-old Kiffin, currently head coach at Florida Atlantic, has a long history with the SEC, helping Alabama win an SEC and a national title as offensive coordinator under Nick Saban. Kiffin is 60-34 as a college head coach, including 25-13 at Florida Atlantic. The Rebels are in need of a new head coach after firing Matt Luke after a loss to rival Mississippi State on Thanksgiving night. Luke went 15-21 in three seasons, taking over the Ole Miss program as it was recovering from NCAA sanctions related to recruiting violations during the Hugh Freeze era.
