New data from the Mississippi Office of Highway Safety reports that seat belt usage in the state averaged 74.4 percent in 2013

That’s down from 83 percent in 2012. Along with the decrease in seat belt usage came a 5.3 percent increase in traffic fatalities between 2012 and 2013. Arkansas’ seat belt usage was slightly higher at 76.7 percent.
