MVSU President Preferred Choice To Head Jackson State


ITTA BENA, MS (Ben Caxton) — The president of Mississippi Valley State University is the College Board’s preferred candidate to lead Jackson State University. William Bynum Jr. has led Valley, the smallest of Mississippi’s eight public universities, since 2013. He will meet with members of the Jackson State community on May 31st with a vote by trustees to follow. Carolyn Meyers resigned as president of Jackson State last year after trustees intervened in finances, citing dwindling cash reserves. Former U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige is interim president, but isn’t eligible for the permanent post. 89
