Monticello Town Halls To Discuss Uses For Former Armory

MONTICELLO, MS (Ben Caxton) — SE Arkansas Today says that Monticello will host two town hall meetings this month to discuss potential uses for the former Arkansas National Guard Armory in Monticello which was transferred to the city last year after it was closed. The meetings will be held on July 11 and July 20 with both meetings scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Arkansas National Guard announced in January 2016 that it was closing the readiness centers in Monticello and Magnolia. The decision was made by Gov. Asa Hutchinson after receiving feedback from community leaders and the Arkansas Military Department. In the event of inclement weather on July 11, the town hall meets will be held on July 20 and August 1 at 7 p.m.
