Man Extradicted from Michigan to Leflore County Jail

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Greenwood man accused of firing shots into an occupied vehicle last month has been captured in Michigan and returned to Greenwood to face charges. Police say that on the night of June 11, 19-year-old John Fleming III got into a car with driven by relative Latrans Fleming and headed planning to shoot another person. When they spotted the car they thought their target was in John Fleming opened fire, hitting the vehicle multiple times. The car, however, did not contain their intended victim. Instead, it was occupied by a woman and her five children. Luckily no one was hit in the barrage of gunfire and there were no injuries. Latrans Fleming was caught that night, charged with five counts of attempted aggravated assault, and released. John Fleming evaded officers and headed to Grand Rapids, Michigan where he was arrested on unrelated charges two weeks ago. When Grand Rapids police found he was wanted for five counts of attempted aggravated assault in Greenwood he was extradited back to Mississippi where he is being held in the Leflore County jail.
