Local unemployment rates are on the decline. Latest data from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security indicates that Washington County’s jobless rate for April fell to 11.6 percent, the lowest it’s been since December 2008. In Greenville, last month’s unemployment stood at 11.8 percent, down from 13.6 percent in April 2013. Both rates remain above the state average, which was 7.5 percent in April and the national average, which is down to 6.3 percent.
