Jackson Officer Dragged by Car

(Jackson, MS) — A Jackson police officer was injured Monday morning after being dragged by a car. The officer responded to a call around 7:30 a.m. at the Eagle convenience store at Capitol Street and Ellis Avenue where two people were sleep inside a car. When the officer opened the car door, the driver accelerated in reverse and dragged her. The car stopped when it crashed into a parked food truck. The officer was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Her condition is unknown. The driver, 27-year-old Oriente Taylor and the passenger 24-year-old Jovorski Blackmon were arrested. Taylor is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Open Container, Violation of a City Ordinance and Possession of a Stolen Firearm by a Felon. Blackmon is charged with Public Drunkenness.
