Hydrants pass inspection

Recent tests on all hydrants in Greenville found just 32 that didn’t meet operational standards, as opposed to the 200 that were found to be non-operational in 2010. The number of hydrants in working condition can affect a city’s fire rating, which in turn affects residential insurance rates. On a rating system from one to ten, with one being the best, Greenville currently holds a rating of five. Fire officials said there is adequate water supply all over the city. Fire trucks are still the primary source of water, with hydrants serving as a secondary source.
