Friar’s Point May Cut Police Force to the Bone

FRIARS POINT, MS (Ben Caxton) — Friars Point Mayor James Washington has suggested cutting the town’s police department from three officers to just one. The Clarksdale Press-Register reports the move would save nearly $100,000 by having Coahoma County Sheriff’s provide police protection with the city having just one night watchman on duty. Washington says city revenue has fallen by 55 percent. He plans to make his recommendation for a vote by town Aldermen on September 3rd.
