Four New Human West Nile Cases Reported

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — State department of health officials have confirmed four new human cases of West Nile Virus. The latest cases in Forrest, Hinds and Rankin counties bring Missisisppi’s total to 13 for the year. Last year there were 50 cases of West Nile but no deaths. Peak season for West Nile runs through September and residents are urged to avoid areas where mosquitoes are prevalent; wear loose, long clothing when outdoors; use mosquito repellent when outdoors and remove areas of standing water where mosquitoes can breed.
