Cpu Asked Not to Charge for Meter Reading Do-overs

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Yesterday the Clarksdale Public Utilities commissioners heard from former city commissioner Buster Moton who asked the board to reconsider the policy of charging $25 to reread electric meters. Moton said the fee creates a hardship for low-income residents. The board also approved a $500 sponsorship of next month’s tenth annual Clarksdale Film and Music Festival. CPU will observe Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day as holidays but will work regular hours on New Year’s Eve. The board’s next public meeting will be on January 14th.
