  7. In a continued effort to promote healthy eating, Molina Healthcare of Mississippi is partnering with Alcorn Extension Program to distribute 100 bags of fresh produce in Sebastopol. This event is part of a series of “Farm to Table” produce distributions that will take place across the state from May through September.

    This event is free and open to Molina members, who must bring their Molina card to receive a bag. All giveaways will be distributed on a first-come, first served basis. Media is welcome to attend.

    WHY:
    As reported by the State of Obesity, Mississippi has the second-highest adult obesity rate in America, just after West Virginia. This trend has increased since 1990. Poor health also affects the state’s youth. According to the Mississippi State Department of Health, childhood obesity rates in the Magnolia State have historically been among the highest in the country. Approximately 1 in 5 high school students in the state are obese. The “Farm to Table” event series is designed to encourage local residents across the state engage in eating healthy foods and embracing better lifestyle habits.
