City Council takes a No Confidence Vote against the Mayor

The Greenville City Council has taken a 4 to 2 no confidence vote against Mayor John Cox, following controversial remarks he made to a national TV education reporter about sending his daughters to private school instead of Greenville public schools. The remarks, which he said were 13 seconds out of an hour-long interview, touched off an intense debate about whether the Mayor had shown disrespect for Greenville public schools or whether he was right to send his kids to private schools. He clarified that his daughters are now 38 and 40 and that he was talking about a moment in the past. Cox is a graduate of Greenville Public Schools himself.
