Child Shoots Child at County Sheriff’s Home

WEBSTER COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A child was shot in the chest by another child at the home of the acting Webster County Sheriff Andy McCants on Tuesday. The two were apparently playing with the gun when it went off. Webster County Deputy Dillion Cates is reported as saying that the child was airlifted to a Jackson hospital and is listed in stable condition. McCants took over as acting Sheriff in January after Sheriff Tim Mitchell was charged in December with 12 felony counts accusing him of stealing guns and drugs, seeking sex with inmates and threatening employees if they told anyone about the alleged crimes.
