Checkpoints Coming To Clarksdale’s State Street

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — At yesterday’s meeting of the Clarksdale mayor and commissioners, police chief Whit Read noted that 70% of recent traffic accidents in the city have occurred on State Street and his department will begin conducting checkpoints and using radar to cut down on them. In her report to the board city clerk Cathy Clark noted that municipal election absentee voting is taking place in her office, and as an official polling place no campaigning can take place at city hall. The board also voted to move the juvenile curfew back from 11 PM to 9 PM on April 22nd, the Saturday night of Juke Joint Festival.
