Charges Filed in Second Greenwood Homicide

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — Police in Greenwood have filed murder charges in the second of four fatal shootings that occurred in Greenwood Thanksgiving Week. The suspect, 29-year-old James Leahman, has been in custody since 40-year-old Donald Spells was killed from injuries he suffered in a hail of bullets around 8:00 AM on November 27 near McLaurin Street and Roosevelt Avenue. Spells was hit multiple times and initially taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital for treatment before being transferred to a Jackson hospital where he died several hours later.
