Changes for Disabled Student Private School Payments

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi education officials are changing how they award money for students with disabilities to attend private schools. The state department of education has enough money to award grants of up to $6765 to 695 applicants. The value of the award rose from $6594 this year as lawmakers added $2 million to the funding. 415 students continuing in the program will have top priority followed by 184 applicants who previously applied but were denied for lack of funds. Fewer than 100 slots will remain for new applicants. The first deadline to apply for the Educational Savings Account is July 20th.
