Chancery Clerk Pockets Money for Staff Salaries

LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Mississippi State Auditor Chad White says a Mississippi Chancery clerk pocketed money for himself that was supposed to pay staff salaries, and the state wants the money repaid. In a letter sent Tuesday White said Lincoln County had paid the clerk’s staff from 2015 to 2018, but Chancery Clerk Tillmon Bishop never reimbursed the county for the pay as he is required to do by law. White wants Bishop to pony up $126,000 for the salaries, plus interest and recovery costs, totaling more than $165,000.
