Board President Retires Before School Doors Ever Open

GREENWOOD, MS (Ben Caxton) — The president of the newly consolidated Greenwood-Leflore school board is retiring, before the doors at schools in the new district ever open. Deidre Mayes will be leaving at the end of the month she announced at the board meeting on Tuesday. Mayes also serves as a member of the Greenwood School Board and has worked for five years as business manager for that now closing district. A special meeting of the new board has been called for June 11 to elect a new president, and choose an interim board member to take Mayes’ seat.
