Attorney General Says Espy Wrong To Ask For Money

CLARKSDALE, MS (Ben Caxton) — State Attorney General Jim Hood has issued an opinion that Clarksdale Public Utilities cannot transfer funds to the city’s general fund until all outstanding bonds to improve the water, sewer, and electric systems are paid in full. In August Mayor Chuck Espy requested an $800,000 transfer from CPU for unspecified “economic development projects”. After CPU refused, the mayor called for the resignations of the entire CPU board.
