$7m Corps Money to Target Land Acquisition for Pumps

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — U.S. Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith said Friday the $7 million in funding she helped appropriate to the Army Corps of Engineers for the Yazoo Backwater project is targeted for land acquisition to place the future pumps. She says funding is already in place for a series of environmental impact studies to respond to concerns of the Environmental Protection Administration which stopped the Corps from installing them in 2008. The project began nearly 80 years ago in 1941.
