2019 a Record Year for Tornadoes in Mississippi

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — The National Weather Service says 2019 was a record year for tornadoes in Mississippi. 3 people died and 48 were injured by 115 tornadoes across the state. The previous record of 108 was set in 2008. There were no violent EF4 or EF5 tornadoes last year, but over half of the storms occurred in April. 67 tornadoes that month tied the single-month record set in 2011. November is typically one of the state’s busiest months but there were just two storms that month. However, another record was set in December with 24 tornadoes. 17 occurred during a severe weather event on December 16th.
