13 Injured As School Bus Runs off Embankment

CARROLL COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Thirteen students suffered minor injuries when the school bus they were riding went off the road and crashed down an embankment in Carroll County. Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Ronnie Shive says the driver, 75-year-old Jeffrey King, suffered a massive heart attack as he was driving the bus shortly before 4:00 PM Wednesday afternoon. The bus was traveling along Highway 82 from Carrollton to Greenwood with 23 Carroll Academy students on board when it left the road near County Road 316 and landed in a ravine. The students were all taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. The driver was flown to UMMC in Jackson. His condition has not been reported.
