Yazoo Train Accident Claims One, Another Critical

YAZOO CITY, MS (Ben Caxton) — Monday night’s train-car collision in Yazoo City has claimed a life. One of the two people ejected from their car when it was hit by an Amtrak passenger train has died. The other passenger is still in critical condition at UMMC in Jackson. Yazoo City Police Chief Andre Lloyd said a car with two men inside tried to beat the Amtrak train just before 7 p.m. The railroad crossing lights were flashing and the crossing guards were lowered, but the car went around them. That’s when the train crashed into the vehicle, according to Lloyd. The force of the impact reportedly pushed the victim’s vehicle more than a mile down the track before the train could come to a complete stop.

I was on the train. Just wondering the condition of the other man. Sad event. Why would they try to beat a train?
