Yazoo Federal Prison Marks 20th Anniversary

YAZOO COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — 20 years ago the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Institution opened for federal inmates. Yazoo is a United States federal prison for male low, medium, and high-security inmates. An adjacent satellite prison camp houses minimum-security male offenders. It is part of the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Complex operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. Current inmates include Cesar Meza-Garcia, serving a 22-year sentenced and scheduled for release in 2035. Garcia was a leading figure in the Tijuana Cartel extradited from Mexico in 2013 to face charges that he oversaw the cartel’s efforts to import methamphetamine into the United States, and Michael Golden, member of the white supremacist group Aryan Alliance who pleaded guilty to arson in connection with the 2008 firebombing of the Islamic Center of Central Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Former inmates now released include former NFL player Mark Ingram and rap artist David Darnell Brown, otherwise known as Young Buck.
