Yazoo City Officer Struck by Suspect’s Vehicle

(Yazoo City, MS) — A Yazoo City police officer is in the hospital after being struck by a suspect’s vehicle. After police tried to stop Cruzette Loften for a traffic violation on a dead-end street Thursday, the suspect’s vehicle sped up and struck the officer, causing him to go up over the top of the car. The officer was able to fire at least one shot at Loften but he kept going. Loften left his car near an abandoned home and police found him, shortly after, suffering from a gunshot wound. Loften was taken into custody and transported to the hospital. The injured officer was rushed to UMMC in Jackson. His condition is currently unknown. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is assisting police in this investigation.
