Woman Killed in Front Yard Just Blocks from Blues Festival

HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (Ben Caxton) — A Helena-West Helena woman was shot and killed standing outside a neighbor’s home Thursday morning just blocks from the site of the King Biscuit Blues Festival. 41-year old Freda Williams, a grandmother, and mother of five was found bleeding on the lawn after neighbors heard shots fired. Police believe more than one person killed Williams and that one of them used an assault-style weapon after recovering two different shell casings. A neighbor said a bullet tore through his bedroom window and his headboard inches from where he was sleeping; police were already investigating a shooting that had happened two hours earlier about a block away.
