Wildfire Related Death in Mississippi


(Montgomery County, MS)- One wildfire-related death has been reported in Montgomery County by the Mississippi Forestry Commission. Forestry Commission wildland firefighters were called to suppress a wildfire late last week. Authorities said a property owner engaged in agricultural field burning, despite the county being under a burn ban due to extreme drought conditions. The fire got out of control and spread quickly. The property owner tried to suppress the wildfire, but was overtaken by the flames. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. This tragedy brings to light the importance of adhering to all burn bans statewide.
