MONTICELLO, AR (Ben Caxton) — Details emerged in the arrest of a Monticello mayoral candidate’s wife on charges of soliciting murder. At a bond hearing on Friday, a Monticello police officer told District Judge Bruce Anderson that former Monticello Mayor Joe Rogers and his ex-wife were the intended victims the murder-for-hire case. 48-year-old Stephanie Rogers was taken into custody Thursday afternoon for allegedly conspiring to commit capital murder and criminal solicitation to commit capital murder between Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Police say the case is not circumstantial saying they have audio and video recordings of the crime given to them by an informant. Bond was set at $500,000 and Rogers was ordered to have no contact with Joe Rogers, his ex-wife, Debbie Rogers, and two others, including a minor child. Her husband served as mayor of Monticello from 2007 until 2010 and again in 2014, completing the remaining five and a half months of late Mayor Allen Maxwell’s unexpired term. Rogers is again a candidate for mayor in the November 6 General Election.
