Weekend Murder Rampage Puts Mississippi In National Spotlight

LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Ben Caxton) — A murder rampage in Lincoln County that left eight people dead has put Mississippi in the National Spotlight this Memorial Day Weekend. 35-year-old Willie Corey Godbolt apparently spurred on by a domestic dispute started the killing spree shooting three women and a Sheriff’s Deputy, 36-year-old William Durr, around 11:30 PM Saturday night. Godbolt reportedly forced someone to drive him to other relative’s homes where he shot and killed two young boys and another woman and her husband. He is seen on camera telling a reporter from the Clarion-Ledger that he had intended to kill himself as well but ran out of bullets. Both Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and Attorney General Jim Hood released statements Sunday thanking law-enforcement for their sacrifices and urging Mississippians to pray for those lost in the tragedy.
