Video Forces Suspension Of Helena-west Helena Officer

HELENA-WEST HELENA, AR (Ben Caxton) — A Helena-West Helena police officer is off the job pending an investigation after body camera video surfaced showing him pointing a gun at a man over Memorial Day weekend. The video shows officer Terry Daughtery approaching a black car, several times asking the man inside for his license, registration, and proof of insurance. Instead, the man takes his phone out and starts recording and Daughtery drew his gun. Chief James Smith said officers spotted three cars parked at a closed Double Quick store around 1:45 AM and because the locations had been burglarized before, officers were suspicious. Edrick Truitt came back after being told to leave. That’s when Officer Daughtery spotted an assault rifle inside Truitt’s car. Truitt was charged with Carrying a Weapon, Loitering, Resisting Arrest and Failure to comply with a lawful order. The Arkansas State Police has been asked to investigate and Chief Smith expects more administrative action to be taken against other officers involved.
