Vicksburg Schools Reopen As Tornado Count Hits 19

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — Vicksburg area schools have reopened after closing Monday and Tuesday in the wake of the damage left behind when two EF-2 tornadoes raked across the city last weekend. Cleanup continues through both in Vicksburg and hard hot Hamilton. The National Weather Service now says at least 19 tornadoes hit the state Saturday. The state counts more than 350 buildings as damaged statewide in the outbreak with one person killed and 18 injured. Mississippi State University itself was spared but a haybarn and parts of its Starkville cattle farm sustained about $350,000 in damages. More severe weather is possible today across the Delta with an enhanced risk of tornadoes, winds of up to 80 mph, and quarter-sized hail mid-day into afternoon.
