Vicksburg Restoration Project Wins $545,000 Grant

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Vicksburg restoration project has received more than half a million dollars in grant money. The Old Mississippi Hardware Building renovation project aims to convert the former garment factory and hardware building on Mulberry Street into a multi-floor innovation and tech transfer center to serve the Vicksburg area and the central Mississippi region. Cost of the project is estimated at around $19M. Last week the Delta Regional Authority announced an award of $545,000 to renovate and expand the building’s parking lot. Vicksburg’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen have allocated $300,000 to the effort. The parking lot is directly across from the Vicksburg Convention Center, so the developer says it will also be of great use to the city when events are being held. Proposed plans for the building include a center for entrepreneurship and for training and the relocation of the Mississippi State University graduate program from ERDC to the Mississippi Hardware Building.
