Vicksburg Mayor Pitches Projects To Trump Again

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — Vicksburg’s Mayor thinks his seat between President Donald Trump and U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao bodes well for area projects. Flaggs returned to Washington, D.C., Monday at the invitation of the Trump administration to discuss infrastructure. He presented three different projects from his wish-list asking for $195 million federal assistance. Flaggs, with the help and support of Governor Phil Bryant pitched Trump on a new $125M multimodal port to combine river, rail, and highway infrastructure into a new “Port of Vicksburg”, $50M to help fund projects like water lines and wastewater treatment plants, a $50M Hennessey Bayou Watershed Restoration plan, and a $7 million U.S. 61 North bypass road designed to shorten the distance between the highway and Interstate 20, and reroute 18-wheelers away from downtown.
