Vicksburg Council Escalates Convention Center Repairs


VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — An escalating problem at the Vicksburg Convention Center has the city council prepared to act. At tomorrow’s meeting alderman are set to hire an architectural firm to prepare plans for improvements at the Vicksburg Convention Center. One of the main issues to be addressed is the building’s escalator which is costing the city $18,000 per year in maintenance. The city wants to replace the escalator, upgrade the elevator, and repair a critical retaining wall at the site. Jackson-based Cook Farr Douglas Lemons Architects & Engineers will handle the planning work at a cost of just under $120,000.
