Vicksburg Carjacker Released from Hospital and Arrested

JACKSON, MS (Ben Caxton) — When 26-year-old Deon Jamaal Hatten was released from the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson early Sunday afternoon, Vicksburg Police were waiting to immediately put him behind bars. Hatten was arrested and charged on a warrant for carjacking and two counts of first-degree murder following an incident in Vicksburg last week. Authorities claim Hatten stole a pickup truck from the Lady Luck Casino parking lot just before 3:00 AM on August 5th. As he fled the scene at high speed he collided with a car containing 30-year-old Jared Deville Brinner, and 32-year-old Ron Lydell Hedrick. The impact caused the car to burst into flames and both men were declared dead at the scene. Hatten was taken to UMMC in critical condition where he has been recovering. He appeared Monday morning before Vicksburg Municipal Court Judge Toni Terrett, who set his bond at $3 million.
