Vicksburg Buys Church Being Swallowed by Bayou

VICKSBURG, MS (Ben Caxton) — A Vicksburg area abandoned church being swallowed by a local bayou will be purchased by the city. Mayor George Flaggs said it would cost more to try and fix the bayou to save the property than to simply buy the property and demolish the old church. Cost estimates to repair the stretch of bayou responsible for the erosion range from $400,000 to $800,000. The building sits on land on Patricia Street which is sinking into the adjacent Spouts Bayou.
