WASHINGTON, DC (Ben Caxton) — Washington is the best state and Mississippi is third worst according to US News and World Report. The rankings are based on each state’s healthcare, education, economy, infrastructure, opportunity to residents, fiscal stability of state government, public safety and natural environment. Tennessee ranked 30th and Arkansas was 45th overall. Alabama and Louisiana are 49th and 50th this year although Mississippi moved up one spot from 49th where the state has been ranked the past two years. Mississippi ranks 45th or worse for healthcare, economy, education, and infrastructure. The state’s highest ranking was for its natural environment, 11th best. Healthcare and education weighed more heavily than other categories because residents cared about those issues the most.
