UPDATE: Three Arrested In Murder Of Sunflower 80-Year-Old

GREENVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Delta Daily News has learned that three suspects are being held at this hour in connection with the early morning murder of an elderly Sunflower resident. Shortly after midnight police were called to the Porter Arms apartments at 302 Plantation Avenue in Sunflower where they found 80-year-old Annie Ruth Johnson dead, and her car stolen. Sources tell us this morning that Johnson had been tied up, and strangled. The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is taking the lead in this case as it has been revealed that Ms. Johnson is the aunt of Sunflower County Sheriff James Haywood. Community leaders have told us that Johnson was an outstanding member of the community, involved in helping those in need in Sunflower. MBI has not released the names of the suspects or any details of the crime and the case is still under investigation.
