Two More Co-Ops Considering Broadband Services

BOONEVILLE, MS (Ben Caxton) — Two more Mississippi rural electrical cooperatives are looking at offering broadband internet services to their customers. Both Prentiss County Electric Power Association and Alcorn County Electric Power Association voted to allow their cooperatives to offer internet in meetings during the last week. The moves follow announcements last week of plans to implement service by Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association and Tombigbee Electric Power Association. Citing complaints that current internet providers weren’t serving rural areas, the Mississippi legislature this year allowed rural electric providers to enter the business.
